Credentials required: The applicant should have Sheet Metal Worker Trade Certification, 1st Period Apprentice, 2nd Period Apprentice, 3rd Period Apprentice, 4th Period Apprentice, 5th Period Apprentice, Sheet Metal Worker Red Seal Certificate, First Aid Certificate, WHMIS, Driver’s License.

Major Work Area: Installation, Repair, Retrofit

Type of Establishment/Work Setting Experience: Commercial, Institutional, Industrial, Shop

Areas of Specialization: Copper or metal roofs, Sheeting and cladding, Roof decking, Pre-fabricated metal buildings, Eavestroughing and flashing, Custom sheet metal items, Decorative metal sheets

Other Material Joining Techniques / Equipment: Lock formers, seamers, groovers, Rivets, screws, bolts, Pop rivets, High speed mechanically applied tech screws, Soldering equipment, High-tech adhesives and glues

Specific Skills: Determine layout of systems, Measure and mark sheet metal according to template, Operate metalworking machines to cut, punch, drill, shape or straighten sheet metal, Inspect products to ensure quality and conformity to specification, Set up power equipment, Cut materials using power tools or by hand, Assemble, erect and install hoisting and rigging equipment

Additional Skills: Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications, Utilize computerized quantity take-off, Schedule work
