Credentials required: The applicant should have Food Safe Certificate, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate. Cook Categories: Cook (general) Work Setting: Cafeteria Food Preparation Specializations: Bakery goods and desserts, Stocks, soups and sauces, Eggs and dairy, Cold kitchen (salads, appetizers, sandwiches), Meat, Pasta, Pizza Types of Meals/Food Prepared: Short orders, Breakfasts, Lunches, Banquets Specific Skills: Prepare and cook individual dishes and foods, Plan menus, Ensure quality of food and determine size of food proportions, Estimate food requirements and costs, Inspect kitchens and food service areas, Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food, Order supplies and equipment, Supervise kitchen staff and helpers, Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment, Work with specialized cooking equipment (deep fryer, etc.), Clean kitchen and work areas, Manage kitchen operations Transportation/Travel Information: Own vehicle, Public transportation is available Security and Safety: Criminal record check, Child abuse registry check Essential Skills: Reading text, Numeracy, Writing, Oral communication, Working with others, Problem solving, Decision making, Critical thinking, Job task planning and organizing, Continuous learning Other Information: Located in the Osborne St South area.
