Terms: This is a temporary, full time job, which requires working days, evenings, nights, and weekends. Shift work is involved. Some overtime will be available.

Salary: will be $45.00 per hour for a 40 hour week.

Education: The applicant should have completed high school.

Experience: two to three years’ experience.

Credentials required: The applicant should have Provincial blasting licence.

Type of Equipment: Track or truck-mounted rotary drilling machines, Air-track drilling machines, Drilling machines, Detonators, Fuses, Detonating cords, Blasting machines, Safety mat, Galvanometer

Type of Work Experience: Open-pit mines

Driller Specific Skills: Operate drilling machines, Bore blast holes to specified depths, Drill blast holes in rock, Drill holes for building foundations or pilings, Measure location and stake out pattern of holes to be drilled, Load blast holes with explosives, Detonate explosives to dislodge coal, ore or rock

Blaster Specific Skills: Determine depth and diameter of blast holes, Conduct field tests to determine type and quantity of explosives required, Load explosives in blast holes, Direct movement of bulk explosives trucks to load holes, Connect electrical wires, detonating cords or fuses into series, Connect series to blasting machine, Detonate charges, Handle, store and transport explosives according to regulations

Additional Skills: Read instructions or diagrams, Ensure that safety procedures are observed

Security and Safety: Criminal record check

Own Tools/Equipment: Steel-toed safety boots

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Work under pressure, Physically demanding, Manual dexterity, 20/20 vision, Attention to detail, Hand-eye co-ordination, Ability to distinguish between colours, Sound discrimination, Standing for extended periods, Bending, crouching, kneeling

Transportation/Travel Information: Willing to travel, Travel expenses paid by employer

Work Location Information: Remote location

Other Information: Must have valid Level II or Level III Blaster Safety Certificate for province of Newfoundland & Labrador. Able to travel away from home for extended periods of time, good medical cond. OT available.
